Ranch Division:

Futurity/Derby:

Ranch horses will be judged under a remote dummy for 6 seconds on two year olds and 8 seconds on 3 year olds. Horses will be judged by 4 judges for their wild and exotic style of bucking. Horses will be scored using five categories: Show, Degree of Difficulty, Direction Change, Kick and Drop. Zero (0) to five (5) points, quarter points may be awarded in each category, with all five categories added up to form one (1) to twenty-five (25) points per trip, per judge.

Ranch Categories Defined:

  • Show – Unique style in terms of wild, exotic. Unrestrained extravagance beyond normal or conventional standards.
  • Degree of Difficulty – The extent, measure or scope of action. Relative intensity.
  • Direction Change – Deviating from the intended or expected course. Higher points are awarded for extreme change of directions, and for the consistency and irritancies in direction change.
  • Kick – Extension of the hocks. If the horse is not extending, they should not cover any ground.
  • Drop – The degree of break over.

Mature Horse

4 year olds and over:

Mature horses are judged under the same specifications as the Ranch Division. Horses are judged with a rider for up to 8 seconds or until rider is thrown. Horses will be scored using the same five categories as outlined in the Ranch Division. Each horse and each rider will receive an individual score. Two extra judges will score the rider from one (1) to fifty (50) points per trip, per judge. Riders are required to make the full 8 seconds to receive a qualifying mark.
