Registration Guidelines
Become a member of American Buckinghorse Registry LLC (ABR). This will require filling out the ABR Membership Application form and submitting this form to the ABR office along with appropriate payment.
Once you become a member of ABR you can order the DNA kits needed to take hair samples on your horses. This will require filling out the ABR Registration Application form and submitting this form to the ABR office along with appropriate payment for the number of DNA kits needed. DNA kits will not be mailed out until full payment has been received.
RULES OF REGISTRATION
Anyone applying for registration of horses must conform to
all of the requirements, rules, and regulation of this Registry.
No horse shall be registered in this Registry unless the owner of the horse is a
member of the American Buckinghorse Registry in good standing.
No horse shall be registered in this Registry unless without a DNA hair sample analysis
on file with the American Buckinghorse Registry.
Foals may be registered by the breeder or owner.
Name files start with those already issued to the horse by owners. Name changes
are not allowed after registration. Duplicate names will not be allowed.
Permanent ID number brands required as a prerequisite to register.
Duplicate numbers brands under the same membership will not be allowed.
REGISTRATION FEES
Registration fees are $85.00 each for horses foaled before 2012. Check the ABR handbook for registration rules and fees pertaining to foals born in 2012 and later. Payment of all necessary fees must accompany application for Registry.
APPLICATION FOR REGISTRATION
Application for registration must include a DNA hair sample. A record of all brands and markings, along with four clear photos (front, back and both sides). Pictures are required, and one will be placed on the Certificate of Registration for verification purposes. False statements concerning registration will exclude that person from this Registry, and all past registrations made by that person with this Registry may be canceled.
Any certificates, applications, transfers, or forms showing unauthorized alterations are subject to cancellation.
AGE OF A HORSE
Horses’ age determined from January 1st to January 1st. Mouthing may be required as the Registry sees fit. A horse is not eligible to participate in ABR-approved events if its age, as determined by examination of its teeth, does not correspond to the age shown on its registration certificate. Such determination by tooth examination is to be made in accordance with the current “Official Guide for Determining the Age of the Horse” as adopted by the American Association of Equine Practitioners.
Note: ABR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO AGE VERIFY AND / OR DISQUALIFY ANY HORSE ENTERED AT ANY ABR PRODUCED OR SANCTIONED EVENT.
TRANSFERS
Transfer of ownership must be made on the records of this Registry. It is required of the seller of a horse to forward immediately the transfer and fee of $15.00 to the secretary of this Registry. The seller is responsible for date of sale, and name and address of buyer, all in ink. Each space of the transfer of ownership must be filled out to make the transfer complete and acceptable.
Persons who neglect or refuse to issue a transfer, sign blank transfers, or make false statements are subject to penalty and may be expelled from this Registry.
